The Dalai Lama Among Those Scheduled to Appear at
Daniel Pearl World Music Days Encore Performances
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Spreading "Harmony for Humanity"
around the globe, the sixth annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days concert
network is set to unite audiences at over 500 concerts in 38 countries. Led
by World Music Days Honorary Committee members Elton John performing in Las
Vegas, Herbie Hancock in Japan, Tania Libertad in Mexico and Texas, Itzhak
Perlman in New York City, Theodore Bikel in Phoenix and Ravi Shankar
(playing with his daughter protege Anoushka Shankar) at multiple venues
worldwide, "encore" performances of every musical genre are being dedicated
to the event theme. The full list of concerts is available at
www.danielpearlmusicdays.org where musicians are registering upcoming
performances throughout October.
Several high profile venues and performers have signed up to support
this global phenomenon inspired by the life of journalist and musician
Daniel Pearl. "Take Back the Mic," a hip hop based youth empowerment tour
co-founded by Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, will be performing at major
universities; the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City will be the
site of concerts by Grammy Award winning jazz songstress Dianne Reeves, The
Guarneri String Quartet, and German piano virtuoso Lars Vogt; Dave Koz of
The Smooth Ride Home will dedicate his nationally syndicated radio show;
the Czech Embassy in Washington, D.C. will host a klezmer flavored concert;
and renowned cellist Michael Fitzpatrick will dedicate a special invocation
in conjunction with an appearance by the Dalai Lama in Indiana, as well as
separately accompanying Irish singer-phenomenon Mairead at the House of
Blues in Los Angeles.
"People everywhere, sharing Danny's unwavering belief in the power of
music, have united to form a legacy of hope and empowerment," said Pearl's
father, Judea Pearl, President of the Daniel Pearl Foundation. "In addition
to orchestras, chorale groups, rock bands, jazz artists and festivals
showcasing everything from bluegrass to world music, there have been many
inter-faith events and over a dozen youth performances that support our
mission of fostering international friendship and reverence for our shared
humanity."
A program of the Daniel Pearl Foundation, Daniel Pearl World Music Days
each year joins professional and amateur musicians around the globe to
honor Daniel Pearl's October 10 birthday. There is no cost to participate;
artists simply register their concerts online at the World Music Days
website anytime throughout October and then simply make a statement from
the stage affirming the global network's "Harmony for Humanity" theme.
Upcoming World Music Day "encore" performances include scheduled events
in Australia, Macedonia, Sri Lanka, Cyrus, Norway, Israel, Turkey, Canada,
Pakistan, Singapore, Bangladesh and Germany. Musical artists in 21 states
and Washington, D.C. will join the other 16 states where U.S. events have
already been dedicated. An internet radio station -- the "Harmony for
Humanity" eStage heard on www.live365.com -- is broadcasting a variety of
theme inspired music throughout October; including original compositions
submitted by listeners, past and current winners of the Daniel Pearl
Memorial Violin, the World Music Days Honorary Committee, and music
featuring Pearl himself with a variety of bluegrass and rock bands. To
learn more about the "Harmony for Humanity" eStage visit

"In light of numerous requests to dedicate events beyond the first part
of October, we are accepting 'encore performances' through month's end,"
explained Daniel's mother, Ruth Pearl. "Plus, year round our eStage will
continue to display an online gallery of pictures, articles, poems, lyrics
and dedications inspired by the Harmony for Humanity theme."
Since it's formation in 2002, Daniel Pearl World Music Days has
inspired over 2000 concert dedications in 75 countries. The Daniel Pearl
Foundation works domestically and internationally to promote cross-cultural
understanding, to counter cultural and religious hatred, to encourage
responsible and creative journalism, and to unite and enrich people through
