8th Annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days - October 1-31, 2009
 |
The Daniel Pearl Foundation is proud to invite our friends and supporters to be part of the 2009 Daniel Pearl World Music Days - - a month long global network of concerts dedicated to tolerance and humanity.
Last year, musicians at more than 1,100 events in 63 countries empowered audiences with a sense of unity and purpose by dedicating their music to the theme of "Harmony for Humanity." 2009 World Music Days coincides with what would have
been Danny's 46th birthday, October 10. This year, we invite you, your musician friends (professional and amateur), houses of worship, non-profit organizations, embassies, schools and youth groups to dedicate their musical performances to
our global symphony. Dedications can be made from the stage, or in the printed program of either previously scheduled performances or specifically organized ones. There is no financial obligation.
To register an October performance, or learn more about this unique program, please visit
www.danielpearlmusicdays.org. Events taking place outside the October 1-31, 2009, time frame are welcome as "Tribute Events" and are also featured on the website.
A companion to World Music Days network of concerts is "Harmony for Humanity"
eStage - - a 24/7 dedicated internet radio station that is broadcast worldwide throughout October. eStage features original compositions dedicated to the principles by which Danny lived, as well as music by the World Music Days
Honorary Committee, winners of the
Daniel Pearl Memorial Violin, and Danny's own music. Recent compositions dedicated to Danny include
I Don't Believe in That by Chip Taylor,
Third Mother* by Sharon Farber and
Remember My Song* by Sally K. Albrecht and Jay Althouse.
* Score is available for high schools and community choirs for 2009 World Music Days.

TRIBUTES AND AWARDS
Daniel Pearl Freedom of the Press Act
Representatives Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Mike Pence (R-IN), recently introduced
legislation in the U.S. Congress to highlight and promote freedom of the press worldwide. The legislation will establish an annual State Department report on the status of press freedom in every country in the world and create a grant
program aimed at broadening and strengthening the independence of journalists and media organizations. "I can think of no better way to honor the memory of Daniel Pearl," Pence said. "This legislation takes valuable steps in highlighting
and supporting the critical work of investigative journalism, while putting on notice those countries who choose to ignore the freedom of the press..."
